This website recognises that the Wulgurukaba ("canoe") people, lived on the island for thousands of years. With just over half (2533ha) of Magnetic Island's 5184ha protected as National Park, it has retained its natural unspoilt beauty with abundant wild life and native vegetation ... and with 24km of bush trails to explore it.
Walking these trails and exploring secluded pristine beaches is one of the easiest to achieve and greatest, pure nature experiences anywhere in the world. You will see many of our renowned wildlife, such as Lorikeets, Sea Eagles, Sunbirds, Brahmini Kites, Curlews, Cockatoos, Rock Wallabies and Koalas, all in their natural habitat.
You will discover our rocky granite headlands, towering hoop pines, native kapok trees and eucalypt woodlands with bloodwoods, stringy barks, grey ironbarks and, ofcourse, our coral-fringed bays.
Before venturing out on a trail,
contact the Park Ranger for info, maps,
"road" rules, fire restrictions etc, then go and explore,
breathe in the brilliantly clean air, enjoy the fantastic views
of our coral-fringed bays AND bring your water bottle!.
