Via a scenic winding road it is about 9 km from Picnic Bay to Horseshoe Bay. By the way, how many beaches did you count?  The Island is 25 minutes by ferry from Townsville, which  is about 345 km South of Cairns and 300 km North of the Whitsundays, whilst Brisbane is 1280 km away to the South, Sydney 2080 km and Melbourne 3000km.
