The Island is 25 minutes by ferry from Townsville, which is about 345 km South of Cairns and 300 km North of the Whitsundays, whilst Brisbane is 1280 km away to the South, Sydney 2080 km and Melbourne 3000km.

Travel time about 40-45 minutes. Leaves from Ross Street in South Townsville, just across the river from the CBD. It is essential to make a booking for a car.

 

| How to get to Magnetic Island? |

Sailing around the Island, stopping over at secluded beaches such as Balding Bay and Radical Bay, boom netting etc, it is all provided by some great Island Operators. You can also go on the Island's famous kayak eco-tours around Magnetic Island. Either hire a tinny, go on a guided fishing tour or just fish off the beach. You have a good chance of catching coral trout, spanish mackerel, queen fish or trevally. Bushwalking in our National Park is one of the easiest to achieve and greatest, pure nature experiences anywhere in the world. The wildlife (yes Koalas) and the views make you think you are in a completely different & relaxed world. Hole 4, one of 9 very scenic ones on the magic 2x9 hole Island Golf Course. Visitors welcome. Electric golf carts, clubs, merchandise etc available. This photo was taken in Alma Bay, but there are many fantastic snorkeling spots around the Island. Snorkeling gear (and if necessary) stinger suits can be hired.
One of the many "things-to-do" on Magnetic Island is exploring secluded bays and beaches on a guided tour or with a (hired) boat or tinny. This photo shows one of the secluded beaches in Five Beach Bay.
Picture perfect Rocky Bay on the Southern end of Nelly Bay Beach. Also perfect for an overnight anchorage (if you have a yacht) or a (nude) sunbake.
Another great thing-to-do on the Island is taking a fun guided tour in a stretched 4WD jeep, visiting secluded beaches and Island land marks.
Jetskiing around the Island is one of these rare activities you will never forget.
All bays have a variety of excellent restaurants, including our famous Theatre Restaurant in Alma Bay.
Dive courses, wreck diving, Reef Tours etc are all organised on Magnetic Island.
By taking an adventurous AND very scenic flight around the Island you will discover all our 23 pristine beaches and bays.
